Just six days after its opening, the NYC to Dublin portal in Flatiron was temporarily closed due to inappropriate behavior. However, the livestream portal officially reopened Sunday, under new ground rules.
According to NoMad Partnership, “The Portals team and our partners in Dublin are working on additional solutions including software updates to limit such behavior appearing on the livestream; additional on-site staffing; barriers to prevent people from stepping onto the Dublin Portal; and educational tools on how to best interact with the Portal on both sides.”
So if you find yourself strolling through NoMad, you’ll see a new barrier has been put in place to help restrict passersby from stepping onto the portal platform. Yet, if someone still disobeys, the portal will detect the action and the camera will instantly blur on both sides.
Moreover, the New York side will have on-site security during new times of operation which will be from 6am to 4pm. Those hours for Dublin then are 11am to 9pm.
“As humans we are creating the Portals experience together. I invite local communities not only to enjoy but to care about their Portals and how other community members are approaching the sculptures,” echoed the artist and founder of Portals.org, Benediktas Gylys.
