JetBlue recently launched two new flights from NYC to Dublin and Edinburgh, but what if you told you you could experience the magic of Dublin without having to hop on a plane?
A sculpture known as The Portal opened in NYC’s Flatiron neighborhood on Wednesday, May 8th, and through groundbreaking technology it forms a visual bridge connecting NYC to Dublin, Ireland!
Created as a testament to the power of art to transcend physical barriers, The Portal creates a real-time, visual live stream connecting the two iconic cities.

Founded by Lithuanian artist and entrepreneur Benediktas Gylys, portals are an invitation to meet fellow humans around the world and, in turn, feel united and one. The sculpture’s livestream provides a window between far away locations, allowing people to meet others outside of their usual social circle and culture.
James Mettham, President of the Flatiron NoMad Partnership, stated:
We are honored to host the Portal’s North American debut on the Flatiron Public Plazas, at one of New York City’s most dynamic intersections. This real-time connection between two iconic public spaces in global cities on either side of the Atlantic will bring people together, both physically and digitally, becoming a captivating attraction for New Yorkers and visitors alike.

The Portal connecting NYC to Dublin is installed on the Flatiron South Public Plaza at Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street, next to the Flatiron Building.
In Dublin, the sculpture will be installed facing the capital’s main street, O’Connell Street, capturing both the iconic vista of both Dublin’s famous GPO building and the Spire together.
It will be on display now through fall 2024.

NYC Chief Public Realm Officer Ya-Ting Liu stated:
Two amazing global cities, connected in real time and space. That is something you do not see every day! We are so excited to have The Portal as a public interactive art installation, showcasing the vibrancy of our city streets and providing a new point for human connection between New Yorkers and Dubliners.
In addition to the real-time connection, there will be scheduled programming including cultural performances at each city’s Portal that can be enjoyed by people in the other city via the livestream. Programming kicks off mid-May.
