It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Herald Square now that the Macy’s holiday windows have officially been unveiled. A little rain didn’t stop onlookers on November 21st who wanted a sneak peek of the festive decor, and of course, the Midtown destination did not disappoint.
This year, the iconic retailer wanted to spotlight giving with its handiwork. Shoppers and commuters passing the store on 34th Street will catch moments of bright red as the Macy’s Gift Guide Elves are decked out in their winter garb, surrounded by lights, carousels, towers of presents, and iconic NYC scenes in the background.
More than simply a display, this year’s holiday windows also feature hand-drawn ornaments from local children in honor of the store’s partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, truly emphasizing the theme of giving and compassion. Take a look at the unveiling in our video below.
Additionally, the 2024 setup marks a milestone, as Herald Square gets its first holiday market this season. Well, two actually. Urbanspace has set up shop inside the department store from November 1st, 2024 to January 3rd, 2025 marking the company’s first indoor market. Then, more of the city’s best artisans, chefs, and creators, will gather outside the store from December 6th, 2024 to January 3rd, 2025 for another market.
And though we’ve skipped right ahead to December 25th, we certainly didn’t forget about the busy week coming up. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is underway on Thursday, November 28th, with a slew of new floats, balloons (hello, Minnie Mouse!), and great musical guests. If you can’t make your way to Midtown for the festivities, our guide to watching the iconic parade will bring the festivities right to your apartment.
Stop by the store for a few seasonal photo opps — and some holiday shopping, of course. And for those of you looking for more thoughtful gifts, check out this list of gift experiences in NYC.
