More cheese please–it’s a gooey, cheesy paradise at this restaurant who’s giving a new, literal, meaning to “The Big Cheese.”
Located in Bloomfield, New Jersey, only 45 minutes from NYC, is The Brookdale: a lively restaurant serving up delicious bar-style bites such as house made pork rinds, crispy smoked wings, truffle mac and cheese, and a selection of pizza and sandwiches.
What we really have our eye on though is the fact that they’re putting an oversized twist on the beloved mozzarella stick, and we’re not kidding when we say oversized.
On the menu you’ll find “The Big Cheese,” a one pound, foot-long mozzarella stick.
The whole thing starts with a 5-pound block of low-moisture mozzarella cheese. The sides are shaved down a bit, the block is weighed out to one pound, and then it’s dipped in a blend of cornstarch and flour, an egg mixture, and finally breadcrumbs.
It’s then dropped into a 350ºF fryer and finished off in the oven.
What’s created is an oversized mozzarella stick that’s 16 ounces of pure deliciousness served with a side of marinara sauce. Imagine the cheese pull you’d get from this baby!
And they’re not playing around–apparently they tried ten different types of cheeses to find which one melted the best.
