One of the hottest summers of our lifetime is on its way to wreak havoc on NYC, and if there’s one thing we can count on it’s that air conditions are going to be vital. And good news: you may be able to get your hands on one for up to $800 off!
Ahead of the summer eligible New Yorkers will be able to get up to $800 for a window or portable air conditioner unit or fan (in circumstances where an air conditioner cannot be safely installed), along with installation for a window unit.
Even more, if you already have an existing wall sleeve unit you can get up to $1,000 off.
New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Acting Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn told PIX11 News:
This program provides air conditioners and fans for New Yorkers at high risk of heat-related illness to help them keep cool during the summer months. We encourage everyone who may be eligible to apply soon so that their air conditioner can be installed before we experience the worst of the hot weather.
Households are limited to one unit per home and the home needs to be eligible for or already have HEAP benefits. You must also have a broken air conditioner or one that is at least five years old.
A full list of eligibility requirements can be found here. If you meet the requirements you can apply here.
Beyond air conditioners, once the warm weather hits NYC will update the status on its open cooling centers, and, always remember, it’s totally legal to jump into NYC’s fountains when it’s hot out!
