Hold onto your hats, friends.
A NYC wind advisory is in place beginning at 8pm today, November 5th. While we might’ve experienced a mild November afternoon, things are about to shift a bit as the sun goes down. We’ll tell you what you need to know.
What to know about today’s NYC wind advisory
From Wednesday, November 5th at 8pm to Thursday, November 6th at 9am, winds are expected to hit around 20-30 miles per hour, and at certain points could potentially reach 50 miles per hour. Thunderstorms are not entirely out of the realm of possibilities, either, particularly if you’re north of the city, so be cautious if you need to travel.
Speaking of which, Notify NYC urges all of those driving, biking, and walking during this timeframe to use caution and stay inside when possible. ConEdison warns New Yorkers to watch out for tree branches or down power lines. Should you need to report a power outage in your neighborhood, text REG to 688-243 and follow the prompts, call 1-800-752-6633, or do so online via the ConEd website.
Towards the end of the week, we can expect things to wind down (see what we did there) and temperatures to decrease into the 50s. However, come the weekend, it’s likely we’ll be seeing bouts of rain, grey clouds and temps in the low 60s.
As of next week, we should brace ourselves for a true late-fall experience with low temps, dark skies at 4:30pm and the usual end-of-year feeling. Honestly? Give us a warm blanket, a cup of tea, and a good book and we’re all for the cozy weather to commence.
As far as this evening, do stay safe, NYC. You can text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 to get citywide emergency updates straight to your phone, should you need.
