Good news for NYC’s little learners, summer break is on its way!
For New York students, long days of ice cream trucks and rides to NYC’s iconic beaches are in sight.
But before you swap the backpacks for beach towels and hunt down the nearest Mister Softee truck, there are several key dates in May and June that parents and students need to navigate.
Here is your guide to the end of the 2025–2026 NYC Public School year.

May is a busy month for check-ins and final preparations. Mark your calendars for these evening parent-teacher conferences and school closures:
- May 6: Middle School & D75 Conferences — Evening parent-teacher conferences for grades 6–8 and District 75 programs.
- May 7: Elementary & Pre-K Conferences — Evening conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K centers.
- May 20: High School & K-12 Conferences — Evening conferences for high schools and combined grade schools (K–12/6–12).
- May 25: Memorial Day — Schools closed (Citywide).
- May 27: Eid al-Adha — Schools closed (Citywide).
Fun Fact: The final day of school (June 26) falls on a Friday this year, making it the perfect official kickoff for a long summer weekend!
