If you’re looking for us on any given Saturday between the hours of 4pm and midnight from April to October, you can find us one place and one place only: Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Why, you ask? Well, we’re eating our way through Queens Night Market, of course! And we know we’re doing something right because the beloved night market was just named the #1 City Food Festival in the Nation by USA Today!
Millions of people attend at least one festival in the U.S. per year, according to the outlet, and those numbers are constantly on the rise. With so many events to choose from–even just in NYC alone–it can be difficult to figure out which ones are worth it. So, from music to food and everything in between, USA Today uncovered the best festivals across the nation, and the results don’t lie; Queens Night Market is a must-visit.
A beloved NYC tradition since 2015, Queens Night Market features over 100 independent vendors (a big difference from the 40 vendors at the inaugural event) selling all sorts of food, merchandise, and art, while live music, cultural performances, and other programming add even more fun.
Foodies can expect everything from jerk chicken and pierogies to fry bread and ceviche. The best part: you won’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy yourself–the price cap on almost all food options is $5, with a few $6 exceptions.
To top it all off, the market is located just a few blocks from the 111th Street Station, so it’s easily accessible from any borough.
USA Today writes:
New Yorkers know that the borough of Queens is culinary catnip, a smorgasbord of global goodies that makes a ride on the subway an ambrosial proposal. The weekly, seasonal Queens Night Market is modeled after the popular open-air night markets of Asia, offering street food that showcases the ethnic and cultural diversity of the borough — all at wallet-friendly prices.
To complete the ranking, USA Today teamed up with a panel of festival experts to nominate the top events across seven categories. They then asked readers to cast their votes to decide the winners. EEEEEATSCON New York in Queens also made the ranking at #9.
Keep up with Queens Night Market on their website.
