This is one to add to your bucket list. As well as playing host to the Northern Lights, Norway is set to add another spectacular reason to visit to its long roster. (Featured image: Dortemandrup)
A spot to view some beautiful whales is in the works, and it’ll be 184 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The museum will include an open-air view to study humpbacks, orcas and minkes.
Sat on the Norwegian island of Andøya, the summer will see these types of whales swimming through the surrounding cold waters, presenting a rare opportunity to get a sight of them. The new museum, aptly named “The Whale”, is proposed to “create awareness and inspire conservation of whales and their environment”. It will serve as both an educational museum and open-air structure.
The building’s curved structure will allow visitors to step out onto its stone roof to catch a glimpse of the migrating whales. Andøya already sees around 50,000 tourists flock to get a good sight of the whales. But, by 2022, when this new venue is estimated to be completed, it is certain many more will be making the journey.
