How to describe a New York accent? It’s one of the sexiest in the entire country, of course. Don’t agree? Tell it to this this study who declared otherwise.
And now we have an idea of how trustworthy our accent is thanks to a new report by BetUS Casino. Spoiler alert: not everyone will be telling us their secrets, if you know what we mean. But to that we say, fuggedaboutit.
The report identified which U.S. accents are deemed the most and least trustworthy by studying online sentiment and regional trust signals. They analyzed search trends for phrases such as “friendly [accent]” and “professional [accent],” combined with data on financial crime rates, as well as the number of lawyers and primary care doctors in each accent’s region.
According to the results, the New York accent is the fifth most trustworthy in the U.S. with a total score of 38.9.
In movies like The Godfather or American Gangster the New York accent is portrayed as very direct, confident, and intimidating. Iconic, if you ask us. But to others? It gives them the impression that we’re aggressive and harder to trust. Honestly, if you can’t handle us at our “f*ckisyoutalkinbout?!” you don’t deserve us at our “you good!”
So yeah, we heard you. And you may not think we’re the most trustworthy, but you also can’t hurt our feelings–we literally get annoyed by our own accents all the time.
But with that being said we also heard that we’re not the least trustworthy accent–that, apparently, is the Mountain West accent. Oh, and btw, the New Jersey accent is the second least trustworthy. Don’t shoot the messenger!
