That adorable studio you’ve been eyeing might be $2,000 per month — but there’s still plenty of cash to shell out before you can call the place home. (Even though broker fees are a thing of the past.)
With assistance from the new StreetEasy Cost & Fees tab, renters will have an easier time figuring out what place fits within their budget — and eliminate any surprise payments down the line.
“Being able to quickly and easily understand which rentals are within budget, inclusive of all required costs, is key to helping renters act quickly to secure a new home that they love,” says StreetEasy spokesperson Amanda Shur.
If your apartment hunt has lead to a few heartbreaks, as it inevitably does in NYC from time to time, explore this new tool for an expansive view of everything you need to know.
A look at the StreetEasy Cost & Fees
While you’ll still be able to search for spots from the base rent, this feature enables prospective renters to see one-time and recurring costs on the listing page when agents and/or property managers provide them.
“The breakdown shows an all-up estimated upfront and monthly cost based on the information the agent or property manager inputs,” Shur adds. “That makes it super easy to understand what you’ll pay upfront and monthly, inclusive of concessions and fees, without pulling out your calculator app.”
The breakdown spotlights how much renters owe upfront — which includes application fees, security deposits, and first month’s rent — as well as monthly costs like maintenance, required utilities, and pet fees.
Have a look below to see what the feature looks like. We personally love the straightforward “due monthly” and “due at move-in” — it saves us from doing quite a bit of math.

Have you started to use the new feature? We wish you luck as you begin to navigate the NYC housing world.
