Excellent news if you’re contemplating an apartment glow-up: IKEA is expanding its NYC footprint and making its way into Soho.
Though we’d never discourage a trip to its massive storefront in the glorious Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook, a downtown locale might feel more centralized when you need to grab pieces in a pinch (or fancy a few Swedish meatballs).
The Ingka Group, which is the biggest global IKEA retailer, snagged the spot for a cool, and it’s in the former locale of the Nike Store.
“This marks Ingka Investments’ fourth acquisition of prime commercial real estate to support IKEA’s growth in the world’s leading cities,” Peter van der Poel, Managing Director of Ingka Investments said in a statement.
Say no more: we’re already planning where to situate our IKEA Billy Bookcase.
All about IKEA Soho
Per the news release, the first two floors of the building will be dedicated to shoppers, while the top two will be offices.
Though an opening date is still TBD, trust us when we say you’ll be the first to know. (It’s possible we’re doing some reorganizing in our place as we speak.) And it’ll definitely be nice to have a budget-friendly option in Soho.
“This new location in New York City allows us to continue offering inspiring and accessible home furnishing solutions to everyone, regardless of their budget,” van der Poel noted.
