It’s time someone puts Connecticut in its place, after 100 pizza makers, along with U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro, are set to fly to Washington D.C. to stake their claim for a congressional record deeming New Haven as the country’s Pizza Capital.
“New Haven has the best pizza in the country — and it is not even close,” said DeLauro “Ask anyone from Connecticut and they will tell you Connecticut pizza, or ‘apizza’ as we call it, is hands down — no contest — the best pizza in America.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams clapped back, declaring New York the “king of pizza.” “It’s all right for them to be number two and they can vie over number three, but number one is ruled by this great, amazing city,” he added.
The march to Congress all follows National Pizza Day (February 9th) when Connecticut Governor, Ned Lamont, gave New Haven the title of America’s Pizza Capital.
New Yorkers seem to be unbothered by the ambitious efforts of their neighboring state because we all know who the true pizza capital is—and so does the rest of America. Did Connecticut seem to forget that NYC is the number one best city in the country for pizza addicts? Seriously, a place that calls their pizza “apizza” is not worth worrying about. Yes, New Haven locals call their style of pizza “apizza,” pronounced ah-beetz.
Apizza is not only defined for emerging from the New Haven region, but by its Neapolitan-style, coal-fired, thin crust.
The New York Post chatted with general manager of iconic John’s of Bleeker, Kevin Jackson, who gave New Haven props but said “Once you come to New York, you won’t go back to New Haven.”
