Omakase is a staple within the NYC dining scene, and the mention of it brings visions of mouthwateringly fresh bites of fish enjoyed while tucked inside a dimly lit sushi bar to mind.
But Momoya SoHo is changing up the omakase game, and they’re leaving the fish behind!
Similar to your typical omakase experience, Momoya SoHo’s rendition will offer two seatings of a 5-course omakase experience–however this one is leaning more towards the sweet rather than the savory as it consists strictly of dessert!
Momoya SoHo is the the Japanese-American restaurant’s third NYC location, which has been a beloved institution for nearly two decades. The restaurant is known for creatively modernized bites, imaginative desserts, and a gorgeous atmosphere, and their sweet new take on the traditional omakase experience gives visitors one more reason to love them.
We’re not yet sure what exactly we can expect on pasty chef Norie Oeumatsu’s five-course menu, but if it’s anything like the dessert they currently serve–Jasmine Tea Brûlée made with grapefruit and kumquat cheese cake ice cream or Mille-Feuille aux Banana made with layers of puff pastry with caramelized banana cream and Hoji-cha rum raisin ice cream–we’ll definitely be making a res.
The meal can also be paired with an accompanying beverage tasting, if desired, from beverage director Leo Lê.
The dessert omakase will be available on the first Monday of each month, beginning May 1st. It’s priced at $85 per person, and the optional pairing costs an addition $50 per person.
Momoya SoHo is located at 47 Prince Street on the corner of Mulberry Street. Reservations can be made here.
