If you’re TikTok was flooded with scenes from Carnival 2025, because somehow everyone and their mother was in Brazil this winter, and you weren’t, know that NYC has a micro-neighborhood dedicated to the beautiful country that’s much cheaper to get to than a flight ticket.
Little Brazil is centered along 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. During the 1960s, this area was a bustling street for Brazilian businesses. Over the years, many establishments, and even the Brazilian consulate, have scattered to other areas. However, there are still staples upholding the Brazilian history of the micro-neighborhood still standing or nearby that you must explore!
You can even see the dedicated “Little Brazil” street sign on W 46th and 6th Avenue. Here’s what you should do when in Little Brazil:
Find the best of Brazil at Buzio’s
Buzio’s offers a little slice of Brazil in the heart of Midtown. Shop tons of imported Brazilian products that can be difficult to find elsewhere, from Brazilian pantry staples like coxinhas and Guaraná to Havaianas and bikinis. The shop is the oldest operating Brazilian store in the U.S. and is run by the lovely Marcela. Be sure to take her up on some fresh pão de queijo, Brazilian coffee and have a chat.

It focuses on grappling, submission holds and ground fighting. 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu offers weekly group classes or private lessons. Whether you’re interested in learning more about self-defense or not sure what new hobby you should pick up next, Jiu Jitsu is a wonderful option for anyone.
