For nearly six years, U.S. Citizens were able to visit Brazil visa-free. However, new ruling has revoked Americans visa exemption to visit the South American country, requiring travelers now obtain an e-visa to enter as of April 10th, 2025.
The e-visa requirements will apply not only to U.S. citizens, but Australians and Canadians as well.

This isn’t the first time U.S. citizens required a visa to visit Brazil. Prior to 2019, Americans needed a visa to enter Brazil for tourism, business or other short-term purposes. It wasn’t until June 17th, 2019 that Brazil waived visa requirements for U.S. citizens. For the next almost six years, Americans were able to travel to Brazil with only their valid passport.
