Look, we’re ready for sun, sand, and surf. And now that we know the best beach in the country only requires a trip out east via the Long Island Expressway, we’re ready to pack our cooler and towels.
Scientist Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, better known as “Dr. Beach,” has been compiling stats for the best sandy escapes in the country for 30 years, so you know you’re in good hands with his recommendations. Before you make your way over to his top pick for 2025, be sure to check out our Hamptons guide. (Hint, hint.)
You can find the best beach in the country in Southhampton
Cooper’s Beach in South Hampton has taken home the gold this year, thanks to gorgeous features like “white quartz sand” and “dunes covered by American beach grass” across 500 feet. It doesn’t hurt that the grounds are “interspersed with extravagant mansions,” either. Talk about a picturesque escape!
This summer, you should certainly consider making your way to the South Fork and its scenic beach towns. We’ll admit, parking prices for the beach can run a lil’ pricey ($50 per day), but you’ll be glad to have all of the amenities: picnic tables, concessions, chair and umbrella rentals, and restrooms.
Plus, the beach will welcome the summer vibes with a lineup of live music throughout the season on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. We’ll cheers to that!
If you suspect that the new claim to fame for Cooper’s Beach will bring on the crowds, not to worry: Dr. Beach actually suggests a September visit, anyway. This enables you to avoid vacationers and still enjoy the water while it’s warm.
