Even though travelers passing through the JFK JetBlue Terminal are heading out of town, they’ll certainly be in a New York state of mind.
Terminal 5, the airline’s flagship, is about to undergo a major glow-up with its hometown at the forefront: 40 new concessions that “reflect the spirit and flavors of New York” — Eataly, The Halal Guys, Serafina, and Gotham Burger, to name a few — themed art and installations from local creators, and a redesigned center concourse that acts as an ode to NYC parks.
“I am thrilled to see this transformative project take flight, creating good-paying jobs, empowering small businesses, and driving economic growth while establishing JFK Terminal 5 as a state-of-the-art, world-class gateway,” said U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks of New York. “In addition to bringing the vibrant spirit of New York to the terminal, this project will uplift local communities by ensuring New Yorkers have a direct stake in its success and lasting impact through construction, business partnerships, and over 40 new concessions.”
Even though we’re all about heading out of town and maximizing that PTO, there’s nothing wrong with a taste of NYC before boarding, right? According to a press release from the Port Authority NY NJ, the 40 concessions will arrive by the end of the year, and travelers have a new JetBlue airport lounge to look forward to. The rest of the upgrades will be complete by 2026.
In the meantime, you can take advantage of the airline’s other perks, including a refund if it rains on your vacation. (Yes, really.)
