Can you still get SNL tickets if you missed the lottery?
Yes! The August ticket lottery is the easiest way to plan ahead, but it isn’t the only way in.
NBC reserves a block of seats for almost every live taping specifically for standby line attendees.
To keep things fair and avoid chaotic sidewalk chaos, NBC uses a modern hybrid system: a Thursday morning digital reservation followed by a Friday night in-person line.
How does the SNL standby line work?
Getting a standby spot requires a strict, multi–step process. Mark these exact times on your calendar for any week there is a new episode scheduled.
Step 1: The Thursday Digital Reservation
Your journey starts at 10:00 AM ET on the Thursday before a show week.
- Go to the official NBC SNL Standby Reservation page.
- You must choose between two distinct tapings: the 8:00 PM Dress Rehearsal or the 11:30 PM Live Broadcast.
- Enter your first name, last name, and email address as fast as possible—reservations fill up in seconds!
Step 2: Receive Your Queue Number
If your submission makes the cut before capacity is reached, NBC will email you a reservation number.
- Due to massive traffic, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours for this confirmation email to hit your inbox.
- Warning on duplicate entries: Requesting a standby reservation more than once for the same date will overwrite your original request, throwing out your initial spot and pushing you to the back of the line.
Step 3: Friday Night In-Person Check-In
Getting a digital reservation number is only your ticket to join the physical queue.
- Take your confirmation email and head to the 49th Street NBC Studios Marquee (between 5th and 6th Avenues).
- You must check in strictly between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET on Friday night.
- NBC staff will assist in placing everyone in exact numerical order based on their Thursday digital reservation number.
Step 4: The Midnight Wait
Once you are organized into numerical order, you must physically remain in line overnight.

What items are banned from the SNL standby line?
Because you will be camping out on a Midtown sidewalk overnight, planning ahead is critical. NBC enforces strict rules regarding sidewalk equipment.

Are SNL standby tickets guaranteed?
No. Receiving a standby card does not guarantee entry into Studio 8H.
Your entry depends entirely on how many seats remain open after full-ticket holders, cast VIP guests, and lottery winners are seated. The number of standby cards entered varies by show.
