According to The Real Deal, who reports on NY’s real estate news, the beloved Asian supermarket’s next move will be to the Upper East Side.
H Mart originated in Woodside back in 1982, though with an independent owner unaffiliated with the rest of the company according to H Mart spokesperson Sam Q. Kim. The grocery chain has since grown to have more than 97 locations across the U.S., including several locations in NYC.
Its newest address will be 223 East 86th Street in Yorkville, a retail condo purchased for $8.7 million.
The roughly 8,500-square-foot condo went for about $1,024/foot, and is located on the ground floor of a 13-story residential building between Second and Third avenues more or less across the street from a 45,000-square-foot Fairway.
As for when NYers can expect it to be open, we’re not entirely sure. The project is reportedly still being finalized, and about six months will be needed for capital improvements.
Once open, shoppers can enjoy a broad variety of Asian groceries, everyday essential needs, and upscale products.
