Part of an ancient sea millions of years ago
Situated high above the canyons formed by the Genesee River just west of the Finger Lakes, Letchworth State Park is known for being one of the most scenically stunning areas in the eastern U.S.
The park was part of an ancient sea many millions of years ago, and was originally inhabited by the Seneca Nation (who called the area Segahunda, or “Vale of three falls”). Because of its ancient ocean floor roots, the park yields many rich fossils today.

⚠️ Important 2026 Camping Notice: Construction on five brand-new campground shower buildings is underway through spring 2027. Camping loops 100 and 200 remain open for the full season, but other loops will experience phased closures.

- 🚆 By Train (Amtrak): Take the Amtrak Empire Service or Maple Leaf line from NYC’s Moynihan Train Hall to Rochester Station (~7 hours). From Rochester, Letchworth’s northern entrance in Mount Morris is just a 45-to-50-minute rental car ride away
