New York City certainly has no shortage of gorgeous places to go and views to see…so why not take advantage of this when working out and make your workout a bit more bearable! Working out outdoors provides you with a ton of benefits, including reduced stress, better sleep, improved mental health, and a greater sense of happiness, and the summertime makes us want to be outdoors as much as possible.
Here are some free outdoor fitness classes in NYC that will help you work up a sweat while showering you with a healthy dose of vitamin D
1. Bryant Park Yoga
Bryant Park’s hour-long classes focus on healing and stress reduction and will occur twice a week all summer long, May 29 through September 25. These classes fill up quickly, so be sure to reserve a spot in advance, and don’t forget to bring your mat! Learn more here.

2. Solstice in Times Square
Solstice in Times Square: Mind Over Madness Yoga returns on Thursday, June 20, with their 22nd annual event. Perfect for experienced yogis and first-timers alike, these free yoga classes will take place throughout the day on the Broadway pedestrian plazas. 3. Healthy on the Hudson
Healthy on the Hudson turns Hudson River Park’s scenic spaces into waterfront gyms, offering a variety of fun fitness classes in partnership with Tone House, MTHD BY OSCAR, Modo Yoga and IronStrength. Monday through Thursday, this series helps New Yorkers of all skill levels break a sweat and stay active while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. All sessions are free, however registration is required. Sign up early as space is limited, and remember to bring your own mat!

The Seaport Fit series offers a variety of workout options from HIIT to power yoga. Reservations are released monthly and can be made here.

5. Waterfront Workouts at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Brooklyn Bridge Park is full of outdoor fitness activities this summer, including the popular Waterfront Workouts series that happens weekly. Classes include Zumba with Dodge YMCA on Monday evenings, Sunset Yoga with Abhaya Yoga on Tuesday evenings, Amp’d with Chelsea Piers Fitness on Wednesday evenings, Pilates with Dodge YMCA on Sunday mornings, and new rotating series Morning Wellness: Pick Your Practitioner on Sunday mornings.
Plus, the famed free kayaking program returns on May 31 and runs through the end of September. Visitors can glide on the East River for free on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 5 – 7 pm, as well as Saturdays, 10 am – 3 pm.
