New Yorkers, consider this the best news you’ll hear all week: those painfully early winter sunsets are officially on their way out. After months of leaving the office in what felt like the middle of the night, the city is about to get a long-overdue glow up–literally.
The big shift happens this weekend.
On Saturday, March 7, the sun will set at 5:54 pm. But thanks to Daylight Saving Time kicking in overnight, we’ll leap straight to a 6:55 pm sunset on Sunday, March 8.
Practically overnight, NYC trades pitch black commutes for actual daylight–an upgrade that rips us right out of our seasonal depression era and gives the city a total personality reset.

From North Pole Temps to 80 Degrees
Meteorologists weren’t kidding when they said NYC was going to have its snowiest winter in five years. After months of being personally victimized by frigid blizzards, historic snowfall, and temperatures colder than the North Pole, we have officially reached our breaking point.
But the spring fever is about to pay off.
Not only is the light returning, but next week temperatures are expected to feel like nearly 80°F in New York City. We’re sensing some sidewalk spritzes in our immediate future.
The Road to the Summer Solstice
This isn’t just a one-day fluke. From here on out, it’s a steady incline toward the Summer Solstice on Sunday, June 21, 2026. On the longest day of the year, we’ll enjoy:
- 15 hours and 5 minutes of daylight
- An 8:30 pm sunset
- Maximum serotonin levels
Translation: Hope is back, serotonin is refueling, and suddenly that post-work walk doesn’t feel like a cry for help.
