Ready to enjoy NYC’s most festive block…without traffic? (A game-changer, really.)
The Fifth Avenue Open Holiday Street program gives pedestrians access to Midtown’s most precious Christmastime real estate sans cars and trucks.
This year, the annual tradition returns for one weekend only, so mark your calendars accordingly. If you’ve begun making a list and checking it twice, don’t forget to add this celebration to your 2025 holiday bucket list.
Fifth Avenue Open Holiday Streets 2025
Now in its fourth year, Fifth Avenue Open Holiday Streets will go carless through NYC’s holiday hotspot from 48th to 55th Streets on Sunday, December 14th.
The Fifth Avenue Association promises New Yorkers that the area will transform into a “pedestrian promenade” with a variety of entertainment options for the whole family. A statement on the group’s website reads, “The celebration will once again showcase spectacular lights, holiday decor, live entertainment, food and beverage, and one-of-a-kind brand activations.”
With the Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show — which is making a bold return after its 2024 hiatus — and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in the backdrop of the festivities, who could resist such an opportunity?
(That trip to the tree is hectic enough with foot traffic — negating everything else certainly helps makes things a little less stressful.)
In the meantime, if you’re in a cozy wintertime state of mind, be sure to check out NYC’s Christmas tree lightings, ice rinks, and holiday markets.
While the temperatures might not necessarily be to everyone’s liking, there is no reason to hibernate at home with all of the seasonal goodness underway. Save us a cup of cocoa when you arrive on Fifth!
