Calling all astronomy fans! 🔭
A brand new Hayden Planetarium Space Show is coming to the American Museum of Natural History to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rose Center for Earth and Space!
Titled Encounters in the Milky Way, the brand new show will be narrated by acclaimed actor Pedro Pascal and debut on June 9, 2025.
The new show marks the seventh installment in the museum’s renowned Space Show series, known for transporting millions of visitors through the cosmos with state-of-the-art visualizations and scientific data.
Encounters in the Milky Way is the first Space Show to focus on the dynamic motions within our galaxy and their impact on our solar system’s history and future.
The production uses groundbreaking data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission, which has mapped nearly two billion stars since 2013.
New Yorkers will be able to go on a time-traveling journey billions of years into the past and millions into the future—witnessing the ongoing merger of the Milky Way with the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy along the way.
Themes dive deep into our solar system’s entry into a “local bubble” cleared by supernovae around the time early humans began walking upright, and looks ahead to a million years from now, when the star Gliese 710 will pass through the Oort cloud, potentially altering comet paths.
The show is immersive and welcomes high-resolution audio and advanced visualization that are unparalleled for its kind.
Some of the world’s most prestigious astronomers, visualization experts, and artists came together to put on this comprehensive look (both past and present) at our beloved galaxy.
Previous Space Shows have been narrated by luminaries such as Tom Hanks, Whoopi Goldberg, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, and have reached over 15 million visitors across 40 countries.
Encounters in the Milky Way promises to be the most action-packed show yet, offering an exhilarating, data-driven exploration of our galaxy’s past, present, and future.
Tickets will be available on the museum’s website very soon.
