Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) is a two-day holiday that reunites the living and dead in which families create ofrendas (offerings) to honor their departed family members. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods, and join in the celebrations, and it’s celebreated Tuesday, November 1 through Wednesday, November 2.
This year, for the second time, The Garret Coctelería is hosting an immersive fall pop-up, Coctelería de los Muertos, in honor of this holiday!
Now through Saturday, November 19, head to The Garret Coctelería to be transported straight to Mexico in a space filled with gravestones, custom built altars, hanging marigold, and more to honor los muertos.
Guests will be able to munch on bites such as Shrimp Ceviche, Tuna Tostadas, Nachos, and a selection of Tacos (including a vegan chorizo option) while enjoying special seasonal cocktails such as the Weeping in Queens, made with white rum, pumpkin, orange bell pepper, and five spice, the Barry Marigold, made with tequila, carrot juice, agave, pumpkin seeds, and pimento dram spiced liqueur, and the Juanny Appleseed, made with pisco, chai, apple, honey, and aji amarillo.
There will also be a selection of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks for guests to choose from.
The Garret Coctelería’s second iteration of this celebration invites guests to dine and sip on tasty cocktails while pouring one out for those who have passed, and will even feature weekly DJ’s and more.
Reservations are highly recommended for those looking to honor those who have passed in a fun way, and they can be made here.
