To celebrate the buzz around his recently released Frankenstein, the Paris Theater is hosting a series in the filmmakers honor. Monsters and Makers: The Gothic Visions of Guillermo del Toro, is a sweeping retrospective of the director’s films running through February 2026.
The series kicked off with the New York premiere of a 4K restoration of del Toro’s debut feature, Cronos. From 35mm classics to restorations, the series gives fans a chance to experience del Toro’s work in its most immersive form.

Highlights include 35mm screenings of Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Crimson Peak, a stunning 4K restoration of Pan’s Labyrinth, and a stunning presentation of his Oscar-winning The Shape of Water. Fans can also look forward to a 4K restoration of The Devil’s Backbone, and the black-and-white director’s cut edition of Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light.

The series also celebrates the cinematic touchstones that inspired del Toro’s vision. Audiences can revisit James Whale’s Frankenstein (1931) and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and the 1957 The Curse of Frankenstein. Also included are 35mm presentations of Jean Cocteau’s La Belle et la Bête and Victor Erice’s The Spirit of the Beehive. These classics reveal the gothic horror influences woven into del Toro’s work, particularly in Frankenstein.
