As New York City shifts from winter into spring, New Yorkers are eager for any excuse to get outside–and we’ve found the perfect one. This weekend, Coney Island’s iconic Luna Park kicks off its 2026 season, and opening weekend is bringing a lively mix of festivities, classic fun, and plenty of freebies.
Whether you’re a die hard thrill seeker chasing the biggest rides or just there for boardwalk bites and nostalgic vibes, opening weekend delivers a full slate of celebrations, time honored traditions, and some seriously sweet perks.
🎡 Opening Weekend Details
Festivities begin on Saturday, March 28, when the park officially opens for the season. Visitors can expect a full lineup of rides, games, food, and boardwalk energy throughout the weekend.
The celebration continues into Sunday, March 29 at 11 am, when the park hosts its annual tradition: the Coney Island Cyclone egg cream christening ceremony–a long-standing ritual honoring one of the most legendary roller coasters in the country.

🎢 Free Cyclone Rides & Egg Creams
This year’s festivities come with a milestone twist.
In honor of the iconic Coney Island Cyclone turning 99 years old, the first 99 guests to ride the coaster on Sunday will receive:
- A free ride
- A free classic egg cream (while supplies last)
It’s a limited-time perk that ties directly into the historic coaster’s countdown toward its 100th anniversary in 2027.
Pro Tip: you might want to enjoy that egg cream after the 85-foot drop!
