Year after year, we come to realize that there’s truly no shortage of holiday events in NYC. From tree lighting ceremonies to holiday markets to festive pop-up bars, a New Yorker’s winter bucket list seems endless.
If you’re looking for another fun celebration to add to your December calendar, you’re in luck. On Thursday, December 5th, New Yorkers are invited to their go-to green space to celebrate the 28th Annual Holiday Lighting in Central Park, a festive celebration if ever there was one.
If you’re a fan of the Halloween Flotilla on the Harlem Meer in October, we highly suggest returning uptown for its Christmastime counterpart. Santa will make the rounds, cookies and hot chocolate will be available, and once the sun goes down, tons of sparkling Christmas tree flotillas will glide across the water! (Anyone else sensing an Instagram-worthy holiday moment in their future?)
While of course you have to participate in the quintessential Manhattan Christmas happenings — the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center, holiday windows sparkling across 5th Avenue — this atypical tradition definitely deserves your attention. Taking place at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (East Side at 110th Street), the free, family-friendly occasion will kickstart at 5:30pm
For more details regarding Central Park’s Christmas tree flotillas, you can head to the park’s website here. If you need us, we’ll be along the Harlem Meer, cocoa at hand, waiting for the festivities to begin.
