Pretty soon you’ll have more than one reason to head to Una Pizza Napoletana, and we’re not just talking about the pizza!
Una Pizza Napoletana was recently named the #1 pizza place in the country, and then it tied for the #1 spot in the world with an Italian pizzeria after owner and chef Anthony traveled to Naples in September of this year to attend the world awards. Now this cheesy hotspot is broadening their menu and will soon offer New Yorker’s the one thing they constantly find themselves drooling for–besides pizza and bagels, of course–coffee!
This pizzeria-turned-café, dubbed Caffè Napoletana, is an ode to Italy’s many coffee shops, as well as the beloved Italian American social clubs Mangieri has frequented in New Jersey for years, and he’s only serving the best of the best.
The weekly menu will serve yogurt topped with toasted hazelnuts, fresh mint, and Casa Marrazzo apricots, which are hand harvested outside of Naples, as well as freshly-squeezed citrus juice. Imported Italian pastries will also be offered, including the Italian sweet bread panettone that most Italians enjoy during the holiday season.
“I discovered this panettone through a bicycle manufacturer I was friends with, and once I tasted it I just had to figure out how to share it with my guests at Una,” says Mangieri. “It is the best I’ve ever had and nearly impossible to get here in the U.S. so we worked with them to get a limited quantity shipped to us for the holidays.” The panettone, studded with candied oranges and raisins, will be from Verona producer Infermentum.
Larger bites including specials like mortadella sandwiches–a large Italian sausage–which vary week to week will also be served.
The star of the show, however, will be the espresso. A Faema President espresso machine will pour well-pulled shots of Italian espresso, perfect for any New Yorker looking for their caffeine fix. Guests can also sip on espresso con panna and cappuccinos–perfect for the cold weather that’s quickly approaching!
Whole loaves of Infermentum’s panettone will also be sold at a holiday market which will be held at Caffè Napoletana on Saturday, December 17th from 9a.m. – 1p.m. The market will also feature a variety of whimsical knick knacks Mangieri has purchased over the years on his many trips to Italy.
Una Pizza Napoletana is located at 175 Orchard Street in the LES. Caffè Napoletana will open Saturday, November 5th, and will be open Saturdays 9a.m. – 1p.m.
