It’s the end of an era: Blue Man Group, New York’s Off-Broadway sensation, is retiring after an over-30-year run at Astor Place Theatre…but not without a celebration.
The final show will take place on Sunday, February 2nd, and the production’s co-founders, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton, will return to the stage on Friday, January 24th for a final sendoff. What better way to bid adieu to a NYC staple than with the OG creators? (Though it might not be easy to spot them among the other blue-clad performers, truth be told.)
“Blue Man Group is unlike anything else in the world and is undeniably one of the most recognized and successful entertainment productions because of the hardworking cast, crew and creative team,” managing director Jack Kenn said in a press release. “It was because of them that these shows captured millions of hearts night after night, and we give our utmost thanks.”
The family-friendly troupe involves hijinks, paint, audience participation, and a premise that is anything but ordinary. Since 1991, 50 million guests have witnessed the show in all of its crazy-blue calamity, and the theater world will certainly feel a loss without the longtime staple.
Despite the closure, there is good news: the show might be leaving NYC and Chicago, but theater-goers can still catch the fun in Las Vegas, Orlando, Boston, and oversees in Berlin.
