If you lived in or frequented Jackson Heights in 2019, you’ve surely stood in line for Birria-Landia’s mouth-watering tacos, especially when you need a late night snack.
The famous taco truck from brothers José and Jesús Moreno became so successful that four additional trucks have parked themselves in the LES, Upper West Side, Williamsburg, and Concourse since.
The Moreno’s grew up in Puebla, Mexico and have a culinary background that spans Mexican, Italian and American cuisine. However, it was a stint in L.A. that set José onto the flavorful world of birria, inspiring the NYC taco truck that now serves up tostadas, mulitas, and savory consomé to compliment their star-studded tacos.
For those unfamiliar with Tijuana-style birria (des res), it involves marinating beef in adobo and slow cooking it for five hours. As a result, you get this tender and rich meat that will have you licking your fingers. To amplify the dish even more, it’s often paired with consomé, a birria broth.
Birria-Landia just announced its plans via Instagram to put the brakes on their expansion—not in the metaphorical sense, but the literal. The newest location will indeed have no brakes, or wheels for that matter, as the company is opening up its first brick-and-mortar location in Tangram Mall. The mixed-use development in Flushing spans 1.2 million square feet and is home to a combination of retail, dining and entertainment spaces.
Birria-Landia fans will be able to find the location on the second floor food court. The menu will feature all the same favorites, with new exciting items, like burritos and sopes.
We spoke to Birria-Landia and they confirmed there is no official opening date as of now while the company awaits its final inspection. However, they told us it will definitely open sometime this spring. Stay tuned for an official date to come.
“People who visit the food trucks have to eat standing up,” Moreno stated in the company’s Instagram announcement post. “Now they have plenty of tables.”
