Selenophiles, planet enthusiasts, and astrology followers unite as August‘s full Sturgeon Moon is on track to coincide with a six-planet alignment that astrologers believe could promise financial gain.
August’s full Sturgeon Moon
August’s name for its full moon, the Sturgeon Moon, hails from giant lake sturgeons (a freshwater fish) native to the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain that were once an important source of food for Native Americans in the surrounding regions. It was around this time of year historically that sturgeon were in abundance. Sturgeons were found to exist back as far as 136 million years ago.

Alternative August full moon names include the Flying Up Moon, Corn Moon, Ricing Moon and Harvest Moon.

August’s six-planet alignment
A six-planet alignment consisting of Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will be on display this month, with Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn all visible to the naked eye.

Typical planetary alignments only involve four to five planets. Therefore, with six planets involved in this month’s phenomenon, you won’t want to miss it! If you want to see all six, you’ll need a telescope for Uranus and Neptune.

Astrological significance
The Sturgeon Moon is often associated with abundance and material stability. This is because the month of August is when all the previous work from months before for crops (planning, planting, etc.) all come to fruition.
Furthermore, planetary alignments can be interpreted to bring financial gain and prosperity. Even planets involved in the alignment such as Venus and and Jupiter are commonly linked with money and values for the first, and growth and abundance for the latter.

Orbital Today further explains how the Surgeon Moon can signify increased energy in individuals, making space for growth and personal development. Full moons are also notorious for bringing good luck to any new endeavors, so maybe try that new business idea or take that leap of faith in a new career or passion.
Regardless, here’s to hoping both events bring prosperity and good fortune to us all this month!
