If you’re in search of complimentary entertainment, Mother Nature is happy to provide. The Perseid Meteor Shower, 2025’s highly-anticipated shooting-star extravaganza, is currently underway, and according to NASA, it’s the best event of its kind all year.
The phonemenon has been going on since mid July, but astronomers have declared that tonight (August 12th) will be the PEAK of the meteor storm starting at around 10 pm and will be visible across the entire U.S.
If you’re keen on catching some special moments, we’ll tell you everything you need to know.
Perseid Meteor Shower 2025: where to see the event
The spectacle is visible throughout the country and in the Northern Hemisphere.
In technical terms, meteors come from leftover comet particles and broken asteroids.
But at the end of the day, there’s a lot of space lingo that proves Perseid is worth waiting for.
NASA makes note of just how unique this sight truly is by stating, “Perseids frequently leave long ‘wakes’ of light and color behind them as they streak through Earth’s atmosphere.”
Plus, you can expect a “fireball” or two throughout its time in the sky, which is a larger and more vibrant explosions of color.
Where to look for Perseid Meteor Shower
Of course, you’ll have a better view of the meteor shower in a location not as flooded with lights (a.k.a. NYC), but that doesn’t mean it’s entirely impossible.
You’ll want to be aware of the times in which the showers shine…and set your alarm accordingly. Pre-dawn hours are likely to lead to more sightings (apologies to those who don’t like early rising) but sometimes, they can be visible as early as 10 pm, per Nasa. (We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you.)
Watch out for the Perseid Meteor Shower
Although the meteor shower got underway on July 17th, it will continue throughout August and actually reach its peak tonight on August 12th around will end around dawn on the 13th.
Have you seen it yet? Keep your eyes peeled tonight for the big showing. We’re rootin’ for ya.
