One of our favorite fictional journalists is at it again.
The beloved Anne Hathaway Devil Wears Prada character, Andy Sachs, will return to the NYC magazine world in the film’s highly-anticipated sequel, but it’s safe to assume Andy’s made plenty of professional changes since her short tenure at Runway moons ago.
For the uninitiated, the novel-turned-film followed an aspiring writer, Andy, who lands her first gig at a Vogue-esque publication, despite not having a “sense of style or fashion,” in the words of her cut-throat boss, Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep). The story remains as delightfully chaotic now as it was 20 years ago.
The sequel is headed to screens next year, and Anne Hathaway is giving fans a li’l sneak peek ahead of schedule while shooting in NYC this summer. Curious to see what Andy’s been up to? Same.
Catch up with the Anne Hathaway Devil Wears Prada character, Andy
Wearing a cute striped vest/pants combo, Hathaway is pictured on Instagram laughing on what we assume to be a set, as she captions the pic, “Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2”. It surely seems like the writer’s sense of style has matured and Miranda did in fact teach her a few important things. (And made her crazy in the process.)
According to Variety, the film reverses the characters’ roles 20 years later: the up-tight, fashion-obsessed assistant Emily (played by Emily Blunt) might’ve gotten the short end of the stick in the first film. However, she’s now working as an exec for a luxury group, and Miss Priestly is certainly anxious to get some financial opps out of her, especially considering how difficult the magazine industry has become.
As for where Andy fits in with all of this, time will tell. But we do love that Anne’s giving us glimpses into the movie’s creation via social media. She also filmed herself on TikTok brushing her teeth in a cerulean blue sweater — an iconic scene in the first film if ever there was one. We love these little nods to the story.
Additionally, Variety reports that we’ll see some new faces in the sequel, including Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet.
