The NYC skyline is officially getting its final piece of the puzzle. đ
After years of speculation and that massive empty space at the World Trade Center site, we finally have the green light for the last tower to rise.
American Express just announced they are building a massive, state-of-the-art global headquarters right at 2 World Trade Center, and it is going to be a total game-changer for Lower Manhattan.
This isnât going to just be another glass box in the Financial District.
The new tower will soar 55 stories into the clouds at 200 Greenwich Street, spanning a whopping two million square feet.

While we have seen plenty of shifts in the neighborhoodâfrom the opening of stunning architectural marvels like the Oculus to the ongoing leasing of the highest floors at One World Tradeâthis project marks the completion of the original World Trade Center vision that New Yorkers have been waiting decades to see finished.
The designs from Foster + Partners look like something straight out of a futuristic dream, with the building being crafted with a major focus on well-being and âgreenâ living.
We are talking about over an acre of outdoor space featuring lush greenery, hidden terraces, and gardens carved right into the side of the skyscraper. It basically looks like a vertical park with some of the best 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline you can imagine.
American Express is going all-in on this location, moving their 10,000 employees from their current spot at 200 Vesey Street once the work is done.
Stephen J. Squeri, Chairman and CEO of American Express, says the project is a huge investment in the cityâs future.
âOur new headquarters will be more than just a building â it will be a place for our colleagues to feel energized, inspired, and proud â a home for innovation, interaction, and growth,â Squeri shared in a press release Wednesday.

Governor Kathy Hochul also chimed in, noting that the project is a massive win for the local economy and a sign that the city is still the place to be for big business.
âThe evidence keeps building: there is no better state than New York to do business,â Hochul said. âBuilding 2 World Trade Center will bring another iconic skyscraper to Lower Manhattan, create thousands of good-paying union jobs, and provide billions in economic benefits to New Yorkers.â
If you are wondering when you will start seeing the cranes moving, the wait is almost over.
Construction is officially set to kick off in the spring of 2026, with the project set to pump billions of dollars into the city and create over 3,200 jobs during the build.
Of course, a project this big takes time. American Express expects to start welcoming their team into the new space by 2031. Until then, we can watch as the final gap in the World Trade Center campus finally fills in, giving Lower Manhattan the iconic finish it deserves.
