Just last March the MTA announced $100 million in renovations heading to Chambers Street station and 190th Street station, but they’re not stopping there when it comes to subway station repairs!
The MTA recently announced the next round of Re-NEW-vation subway upgrades, and this time it involves the spring cleaning and sprucing up of 13 stations across NYC.
The MTA’s Re-NEW-vation Program is one of the major initiatives in NYC Transit’s Faster, Cleaner and Safer plan. The program, which started in 2022, aims to improve the subway system through various renovations. During these renovations stations are scrapped, primed, and repainted, light fixtures are replaced with new LED lights, benches are refinished, outdated signs are replaced, cracks are repaired, and more.
NYC Transit President Richard Davey stated:
Since the start of the Re-NEW-vation program in 2022, we’ve delivered cleaner stations, critical repairs and maintenance, and a heightened transit experience for customers across our system. 2024 is no different, as the number of stations that have undergone re-NEW-vations increased to over 75, with even more stations on the list later this year.
The next round of stations to receive re-NEW-vations include:
- Beach 116 St (S)
- Harlem – 148 St (3)
- 18 Av (N)
- Bay Parkway (F)
- Eastchester – Dyre Av (5)
- Beach 90 St (S)
- 116 St (6)
- Gates Av (J)
- Prince St (R, W)
- Flushing Av (G)
- Grand Av – Newtown (M, R)
- Franklin Av (S)
- Greenpoint Av (G)
MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara stated:
The Re-NEW-vation program demonstrates for all of our riders that we are committed to cleaner, brighter, and safer stations, and easier commutes for everyone. So far the program has reached stations in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx, and it’s not stopping anytime soon.
Subway station renovations will take place this spring and summer, between April and June.
