Two milestone NYC anniversaries are coming up: the NYC subway’s 120th anniversary and the legendary Zabar’s 90th anniversary. And to celebrate the two are coming together to offer New Yorkers what they want most: a bagel with schmear at an incredible price!
For a limited time, New Yorkers can get their hands on a bagel with schmear for $1.20 (honoring the subway’s anniversary) or a bagel with cream cheese and lox for $9.90 (honoring Zabar’s anniversary). They’ll also have a bagel with schmear and a coffee deal for $2.90. Bagels will be wrapped in bagel and subway-themed paper with drawings of stations, cars, signage, and more.
But that’s not all–as a pre-bagel deal sweet treat, on Tuesday, October 22nd, NYC Transit workers will distribute hundreds of Zabar’s beloved Black and White cookies to lucky subway riders at four subway stations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.
MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara stated:
What better way to celebrate the legacy of 120 years of the subway than partnering with another generational mainstay of New York City – Zabar’s. These commuter specials are a way for both the MTA and Zabar’s to show customers we value their continued patronage and look forward to celebrating more milestones to come.
Aptly named the “commuter special,” the bagel deals will be available beginning Thursday, October 24th, through Sunday, October 27th, from 8 am to 11 am, so be sure to mark your calendar! But, in case you forget, messages reminding customers of the Zabar’s deal will run on digital screens throughout subway stations and onboard train cars.
Additionally, the MTA and Zabar’s will also host a social media sweepstakes where there will be a chance to win a special MTAxZabar’s gift basket. A winner will be chosen on Sunday, October 27th.
But 120 years of the NYC subway certainly calls for a big celebration, so beyond the Zabar’s partnership the New York Transit Museum will also be offering New Yorkers four nostalgia train rides on Sunday, October 27th and Saturday, November 16th.
