From now through February 1, 12 enormous, light-up seesaws are installed in the Garment District Plazas between 37th and 38th St. on Broadway.
The block has been closed off to traffic by the NYC DOT so you can fully embrace your inner child at the interactive art installation, called “Impulse.” The exhibit is put together by The Garment District Alliance and the seesaws were designed by Lateral Office and CS Design.
You’ll need a buddy to balance out the other end (doesn’t that just conjure up wonderful memories of being flung off the side in elementary school?). As you both climb on, the seesaws will light up and play music, creating your own personal winter light show.
They will be installed from January 6 through February 1, 2020.
“Impulse” is the latest addition to “Garment District Art on the Plazas,” a year-round public art program that is part of the NYC DOT’s Art Program and the Public Space Unit’s Seasonal Streets program. It was first seen at the Luminothérapie festival in Montreal in 2015.
