Governors Island’s camping experience has returned for a second season, and they’re taking things up a notch this year.
As part of their three year partnership with the Trust for Governors Island, Collective Hotels & Retreats is bringing the glamping experience back to the island this year with some extra amenities and activities. There will be live music nights, tarot readings, crafting, morning yoga, bike rentals, chair massages, plenty of lawn games, campfires and cocktails taking place throughout the season.
In addition to the long list of activities you’ll be able to participate in, there will also be unique dining experiences to add on to your retreat. For instance, enjoy your own private harbor-side barbecue with pre-made boxes that come fully stocked with table settings, beverages, full-meal ingredients, and even instructions on how to best grill the items. Another fun dining experience: Farm & Fisherman chef dinners. Here guests can enjoy a five-course meal of fresh Mediterranean fare with the opportunity to take home a delicious recipe from the evening.
While visitors can take part in some of these activities without having to spend the night, those who would like to experience the retreat in its entirety can rent a Summit Tent or a Journey Tent at night. Both feature the essentials (electricity and chargers), but differ in level of privacy and amenities with the Journey Tents being a more communal experience.
Summit Tent:
- King bed or two single beds (a rollaway bed can be added upon request at an additional cost of $100)
- 1,500 thread-count linens, down comforter, and designer-curated blanket
- Electricity and ample bedside sockets to charge gadgets
- Private, en suite bathroom with rain-style shower, full flush toilet, and hot running water
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner and S’mores options available at Three Peaks Restaurant on location
- Environmentally-friendly spa bath products and amenities, spa robes, and plush Turkish towels
Journey Tent:
- Queen bed or two single beds
- 1,000 thread-count linens, down comforter, and designer-curated blanket
- Electricity and ample bedside sockets to charge gadgets
- Shared bathroom with private toilets and showers
- Plush Turkish towels
- Á la carte add-ons for a perfectly customized experience
And soon there will be an Outlook Shelter, too, which will feature a kitchen, private bathroom, and a 180-degree glass encased bedroom. You can already book your getaway for the spring/summer months through the Collective Governors Island site. Happy glamping, and enjoy all the stunning views of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty!
