The time has come! Oat milk ice cream is now a very real thing that you can get here in NYC.
The Boston-based cake shop Whipped Urban Dessert Lab opened the world’s very first all-oat milk ice cream shoppe on the Lower East Side last summer. The idea behind this shop began with their popular oat milk soft serve in their Boston shop, and has now grown from a concept to a real place—and we’re so glad they chose to bring it to NYC. During COVID-19 shutdowns, they are open for take-out Friday 2-9pm,
Saturday and Sunday 1-9pm.
Since oat milk isn’t exactly dairy, Whipped Urban Dessert Lab’s new shop is also vegan friendly! Their signature vanilla sweet creme is the base of every creation (which is dairy free, egg free, nut free, soy free, and gluten free) and from there you can add a variety of sauces and natural crumb coats to your cone or cup. Sauce options include: chocolate, peanut butter, coffee, strawberry, and mint chocolate; natural crumb coats include: pretzels, waffle cone, sprinkles, chocolate cookies, strawberry crumble, and salted pecan.
If you’re not sure what toppings you want, the ice cream shoppe also offers hand-selected fusions that you can choose from like their Coffee Waffle Crunch which coats the base vanilla with bits of waffle cone and coffee sauce; or their Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel which coats the vanilla. base with pretzels, chocolate, and peanut butter sauce.
Another plus? All of their ingredients are natural, which means no artificial coloring, artificial flavoring, or artificial preservatives.
