
With more than 3,000 coffee shops in NYC, it’s hard to know which one to grab your $14 latte (cries in NYC prices) from. But not any longer! The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops just released their updated list of the absolute best places to get a steaming cup of joe in 2025, and NYC’s Grumpy Cafe made the cut!
This NYC-born, women-owned cafe first opened up shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn back in 2005. There are currently nine NYC Grumpy Cafe locations, bringing New Yorkers everything from perfectly steamed cappuccinos to always delicious iced coffee year-round.
Selecting the top 100
According to The World’s Best 100 Coffee Shops, the voting process takes a complex five-part system to determine the final 100. This includes public voting, an expert panel, nomination process, weighing of the votes and the final selection. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of each:
Public Voting: Coffee connoisseurs of the public get to cast their votes for the world’s best coffee shops in an online vote.
Expert Panel: An esteemed group of coffee roasters, renowned baristas and experts will evaluate the coffee shops.
Nomination Process: Nominations comes from both the public and expert panel.
Weighing of the Votes: Public votes are weighted at 30%, while the expert panelists feedback counts for 70% to reach a final score.
Final Selection: Results make the esteemed guide and are announced in a special ceremony.
