Of all the strange things that happen in New York, this may be one of the strangest.
Earlier this week, the LA-based photographer Amber Asaly was spontaneously thrown a birthday party by her friends on the J-Train. This idea came about after restaurant reservations fell through, and it looks like it might’ve been even more fun than a tradition dinner.
According to the NY Post, “The group boarded the subway at the Myrtle-Broadway stop in Brooklyn at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. They assembled a table, hung up streamers and even strung up a piñata, Asaly said.”
In the photos posted by Asaly you can see some commuters ignoring the spectacle, while others were happy to get involved and join the party. The birthday girl also mentioned, “We all dressed up. We made it like a Michelin-starred restaurant. That was kind of the whole point.” On the menu? Spaghetti and lobster!
Her party lasted the entire train ride into Manhattan and back.
