Three brand new Whole Foods outposts are making their way to Manhattan, and though they’ll be much smaller than the Whole Foods we’re used to they’ll blend seamlessly into a busy New Yorker’s lifestyle. And good news: the first of the bunch is now officially open!
Back in March of this year, Whole Foods Market announced their plans to open smaller format stores as part of ongoing expansion, with the first expected to open in 2024, and now that time has finally come!
In July of this year, Whole Foods Market CEO Jason Buechel celebrated the 20th anniversary of its first New York City flagship store which opened in Columbus Circle in 2004. The store marked a major step in the company’s expansion in New York, though the NYC celebrations didn’t stop there.
Buechel then announced brand new Whole Foods locations heading to NYC, both of which would be those smaller format stores! Dubbed Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, the first one has officially opened on the Upper East Side in NYC’s Lenox Hill neighborhood. A press release reads that the “quick-shop store format [is] designed to provide customers in urban neighborhoods a quick, convenient shopping experience with easier access to the fresh, high-quality offerings they expect from Whole Foods Market.”
The Whole Foods Market Daily Shop is a smaller format of the grocery chain’s usual store, ranging between 7,000 to 14,000 square feet–just a quarter of the size of the average store’s 40,000 square foot footprint.
The shops will feature a variety of fresh, seasonal produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, essential grocery items needed to complete a meal, supplements, and more. Both will also feature Juice & Java, a venue providing coffee, tea, fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups, and various desserts.
The smaller format stores will certainly bring convenience to busy New Yorkers’ fast-paced lives.
The Lenox Hill location, which comprises 9,101 square feet, features the following:
- 400+ local products from 100+ Northeast-based suppliers, including New York-based favorites Family Farmstead Dairy, The White Moustache, Annie’s Ginger Elixir, Dam Good English Muffins, and Mill Hollow Maple Syrup
- New local brands including Jack & Friends, P-Nuff Crunch, and Mimi Cheng’s
- TALEA Beer Co.’s new Lenox Hill Pilsner, available only at the Lenox Hill location
- First Juice & Java in NYC, offering coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups, and various desserts
- New ready to heat sous vide entrees & sides from the Whole Foods Market Kitchens brand
- Single serve hot bowls and meals including health-forward Teriyaki Salmon, Falafel Tahini, and Chipotle Chicken grain and protein bowls
- Whole Foods Market favorites
