From Spider-Man Way on Ingram Street and Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills to Josh Hart Street at Sixth Avenue and West 3rd Street, New York City has seen its fair share of fun name changes lately. And now, a handful of NYC supermarkets are getting a new name, too!
Food Bazaar is expanding its footprint across the city and beyond, acquiring 14 Western Beef supermarkets across New York and bringing them under its own banner. The change will give shoppers a new name to look out for on their next grocery run, with several familiar neighborhood stores set to get a fresh identity by the end of October.

Why the Change?
It’s all part of a major retail expansion.
Food Bazaar’s parent company, Bogopa Service Corp., is acquiring 14 of Western Beef’s 19 supermarkets across New York.
The deal boosts Food Bazaar’s total footprint from 38 to 52 locations, though financial details and the sale price have not been disclosed.
What NYC Supermarkets Are Affected?
The 14 affected stores—which will officially rebrand to the Food Bazaar banner by the end of October 2026—are spread across the region:
- Bronx: 6 stores
- Nassau County: 4 stores (Carle Place, Elmont, Roosevelt, and West Hempstead)
- Staten Island: 2 stores
- Brooklyn: 1 store
- Queens: 1 store
Not every location is changing hands. Western Beef will retain five of its stores in the Bronx, South Ozone Park, Ridgewood, and Brooklyn.

What Else Is Changing?
Shoppers can look forward to a full-service makeover.
Food Bazaar will swap out Western Beef’s traditional warehouse–style meat markets for its signature expanded offerings, including full-service deli, fresh seafood, butcher, and bakery counters.
Store staff won’t be left behind, either. Current Western Beef employees at the acquired locations will be invited to stay on under the new ownership and join the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW).
