If you take a look at the weekly weather forecast, NYC is slated for some long overdue precipitation. Although we’re starting things off on a dry and breezy note, by Wednesday evening, we could finally experience the rainfall we’ve needed all season.
Not only has it been the driest fall on record, but the tristate area has experienced multiple red flag warnings, the city has been under a drought watch, and wildfires subsequently broke out across the five boroughs, including ones in Prospect Park and Inwood Hill Park, as well as New Jersey.
According to The Weather Channel, rain showers in the evening will evolve into a more steady rain overnight on Wednesday, November 20th, and into Thursday. On Thursday, November 21st, rain showers are expected in the morning and will become more intermittent in the afternoon. On Friday, November 22nd, we can expect conditions to be overcast with rain showers at times.
We only received 0.01 inch of rainfall in October, so this is very much welcomed news, especially considering that meteorologists predict we could possibly see about an inch of precipitation, though that still remains to be seen. Though we are anticipating rainfall, we should still be following the drought warning by preserving our water intake — shorter showers, fixing leaks, etc. Additionally, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a state-wide burn ban until Saturday, November 30th.
Additionally, an impending snow storm Upstate could affect the New York region as the holidays approach. Though NYC isn’t slated for its first snowstorm until December, but northwest regions of New York can expect heavy snow, with high winds blowing over much of the state’s western and southern cities from November 21st to November 23rd, so plan accordingly when embarking on Thanksgiving travel.
