Broadway or Hollywood? Waiting For Godot is the latest Great White Way selection to feature an A-list cast, but eager theater-goers will have to wait until the fall to see it.
As of this spring, George Clooney’s Good Night, And Good Luck eclipsed Othello at the box office, which stars Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal. Then you haveNick Jonas, who is breaking hearts in The Last Five Years. Now, our beloved Matrix star (and the internet’s favorite fella) is on his way to the stage in the 1953 play from Samuel Beckett.
Reeves is set to star alongside Alex Winter in the tragicomedy that follows Vladimir and Estragon, two friends who are waiting for the titular character, Gadot, to arrive, but to no avail. This is a retelling of the Irish writer’s En attendant Godot, which was originally created in French. Languages aside, it appears that all Broadway buffs will be in for a treat.
“It’s like being in a band together,” Winter revealed to People about his connection with Reeves. “Being able to bring that into, onto a stage, that’s sort of our fundamental. That’s in our bones away.”
The duo first graced our screen in the 80s with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and their strong connection will continue onto their next venture, according to director Jamie Lloyd…even if the subject matter is slightly different than their predecessor.
“The way that you know each other so intimately, I was amazed,” Lloyd told People. “Normally with that kind of rhythm, you have to discover that in rehearsal. You have to almost like, learn the music, like, learn a score. You were just getting that instantly.”
