Virgil Abloh’s entire creative universe is moving into Hudson Yards this winter, and it is massive.
Virgil Abloh: The Codes lands at The Shed from December 10 to January 18, filling 28,000 square feet across two galleries with nearly 1,000 objects.
Sneakers, sketches and prototypes. Music, architecture and graphic design. It’s all from the guy who made luxury fashion and streetwear talk to each other.
And this year’s timing hits home, too: 2026 marks five years since Abloh’s death.
Here’s what to expect and how you can already starting purchasing tickets.
A reminder of the late, great Abloh
Abloh never stayed in one lane. The Chicago native trained as an architect, launched the cult label Off-White, and in 2018 made history as the first Black artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear.
He also worked on sneakers with Nike, furniture with IKEA, and about a hundred other projects in between.
His secret sauce was remixing. He’d take something familiar, change it just enough and hand it back to you brand new in his own new creative way.
He sadly died in 2021 at just 41, but his influence is everywhere you look.
A peek inside his Paris studio (and his actual design files)
The show is curated by Chloe and Mahfuz Sultan, who pulled from the Virgil Abloh Archive, a stash of more than 20,000 objects.
You’ll see finished pieces next to prototypes, sketches and archival materials, so you can follow how his ideas came together.
The two biggest draws:
- A recreation of his iconic Paris office at Pont Neuf. This was famously an open-door space where ideas got shared and young creatives were always welcome.
- A media lab with his raw design files. You don’t just look at them. You can mess around with them and make something of your own.
There will also be a shop curated by Justin Saunders, founder of the cult brand JJJJound, plus a month of talks, performances and workshops.
More details on both are coming soon.

Why New York, and why The Shed
The Shed has a personal connection to this one.
Artistic director Alex Poots says he worked on a show idea with Abloh back in 2019, which makes hosting “his defining exhibition” especially meaningful.
Co-curator Mahfuz Sultan put it simply: New York is “a city that played such an integral role in shaping his practice.” It’s fitting that the show is landing here.
Tickets start at $25, and lots of people get in free
General admission is $25. But if you’re a student, an educator or under 18, you get in free with a valid ID, thanks to the Virgil Abloh Foundation’s Open Access initiative.
Want the full experience? The $85 VIP ticket gets you an express entry line, entry any time on your chosen day and an exclusive merch item you can’t get anywhere else.
Presale is already live for Shed members and Mastercard cardholders. Everyone else can grab timed tickets starting Friday, October 23 at 12 pm ET.
Every dollar from tickets goes to the foundation, which supports young creatives from underrepresented backgrounds.
