Inspiring show of NYC’s spirit of inclusion, or gross display of “eww,” that’s the question. It seems the internet is split.
If you found a bottle of alcohol on the subway would you drink it? No, right? Much less would you inflict it on a fellow straphanger… or would you?
Colleen Hagerty, a reporter for Now This News, posted this tweet on Sunday:
A full bottle of wine just rolled out from under a subway seat and now these 2 strangers popped it open & are drinking it. This is peak NYC pic.twitter.com/lni474aoY9

The tweet went viral, enjoying over 61k retweets!
So, what happened? Apparently, what looked like an unopened bottle of sparkling white wine rolled out from beneath a seat and was quickly retrieved by one commuter. The man sitting next to him grabbed an empty liquor bottle from the floor and looked on as the first man shared his newly found drink. The new friends toasted and shared the bottle.
NYers seem to be undecided as to whether this simple act was the “peak” of NYC’s grossness or an inspirational moment.
Opinions ranged from the unhygienic:

…to the untrusting:
@colleenhagerty those people are crazy. No way I’m drinking anything that rolls out from under the seat of subway.

to the awe inspired:
