Economy Candy has been family owned and operated since 1937 and has changed a lot over the years. It actually started out as a shoe and hat repair shop with a candy cart outside but when the Depression hit, the candy started to bring in more revenue than the shoes! So, the owners took a new approach and history was made. Today, the shop is still owned by the same family and is a Lower East Side staple. Another gem of NYC, Schmidt’s Candy has been making homemade candies since 1925! Located in Queens, this shop principally focuses on chocolate recipes from old-world Germany. Pick up one of their amazing assortment boxes of chocolates for your mom or the other lovely lady in your life.

3. Philip’s Candy
Philip’s Candy, located on Coney Island is the definition of an old-time candy shop. It looks a bit outdated on the outside but the inside is a (broke) candy lovers heaven. The prices are fair and the selection is pretty wide ranging from candied apples to fudge to cotton candy. Not to mention the egg creams, nothing is gonna beat the 95 cent price!
